Who You Are Matters
Q: Describe where you came from.
A: I was born in San
Francisco, and I moved to Laguna Niguel before I turned one.
Q: Tell me where you're going.
A: I will graduate USC in 3 years.
Ideally, I would like to become a producer at a large film company (most likely
Disney)
Q: Tell me how you plan to get there.
A: One of the courses I am taking this semester is Theatrical Film Symposium, a class that brings in actors or directors to discuss their work on one of their films. According to one of my friends in Cinematic Arts, the film critic Leonard Maltin is not the one who has the connections. The professor who helped organize this class has this networking system.

Q: How are you LIKE your parents?
A: I try to be as kind and
considerate as my parents.
Q: How are you UNLIKE your parents?
A: I feel as if I use my creative
mentality more often than my parents.
Q: Have you developed your own expectations for yourself, or if you were honest, would you say you're operating under someone else's expectations?
A: I would say that I am operating
under worldly expectations. It would be great for me to become prominent in the
film industry. However, I am aware that the film industry is extremely
competitive and that there are probably a couple hundred more people trying to
be as successful. My decision to major in business is to widen my choices for
job opportunities after graduation, as this field is very widespread and
practical. Even then, trying to transfer into business has its own expectations
set up that I must fulfill. For example, I would stay far away from ECON 351 as
I could if I did not have to take it to transfer to Marshall.
Q: Who serves as a model for you of someone who lives life with great passion and personal responsibility?
A: Two of my best friends,
and fellow Trojans, have had the biggest personal impact on my life. Although I
befriended them during their senior year at high school, they never truly made
a huge impact on my life until they were freshmen at USC. Both have determined
factors of my life such as summer plans, classes to take, perseverance and my
overall life direction. The hard work they put into their studies motivates me
and lets me know that if they could accomplish great things, then I can, too.
If this question were to
extend out to famous people, my two biggest life influences right now are
Kendrick Lamar and Max Landis. Both people put immense amount of passion into
their respective categories and care about helping their respective
communities. Kendrick Lamar uses his music to discuss problems in the
communities that he was raised in while Max Landis uses his prior screenwriting
experience to provide useful insight to those wishing to work
in the film
industry.
Kendrick Lamar:
Max Landis:
Q: Connecting with the ANIMAL WORLD: What wild animal do you feel a special connection with, and why?
A: I feel a special connection
with a tiger because of my Asian backgrounds and my history doing taekwondo.
Q: Connecting with the NATURE KINGDOMS: Describe a significant childhood encounter with a tree or plant.
A: The most significant
encounter with one specific tree or plant for me was driving through the tunnel
tree at Sequoia National Park.

Ryan,
ReplyDeleteI have been through that very same tree tunnel that you went through in sequoia national park. It really is incredible to see how majestic and larger than life these trees are. The Theatrical Film Symposium that you are taking this semester sounds really interesting-- If i need more units I will definitely check it out!

My cousin is interested in the same things you are. I love hearing about peoples passions and it looks like you have a strong one and in the right place for it.
ReplyDeleteI have been to Sequoia National Park either. I was shocked by those huge trees at that time, and there are definitely amazing! Also, I have some same feeling about future as you. I guess it's because we are both heading to entertainment industry. Good luck!

I think it's always inspiring seeing passionate people such as yourself. Best of luck in the entertainment industry!
ReplyDeleteI love Drive Thru trees! Sometimes we are caught up in our own world and forget the power of nature.
ReplyDeleteI have never actually driven through any tree tunnels so I thought that sounded very cool! I also definitely appreciated the picture because without it I would have been very confused about what you're referring to.
ReplyDeleteYour career choice in the film industry seems very exciting. Its also very good how you have friends that you are around a lot that also serve as good role models.
